How does Capital One determine which purchases qualify for cash back?
Every time you buy something, the merchant assigns your purchase a category code. We use these codes to figure out how much cash back you earn. Please note, Capital One is not responsible for codes used by merchants.
Some merchants that sell food and drinks that are located within larger establishments (such as hotel restaurants or grocery store food counters) as well as some food trucks or food carts may not categorize themselves as dining merchants.
Purchases made through third-party payment accounts, mobile or wireless card readers, mobile or digital wallets or similar technology may not receive a higher percentage reward, depending on how the technology is set up to process the purchase.
What counts as dining?
Purchases at restaurants, cafes, bars, lounges, fast-food chains and bakeries.
What counts as entertainment?
Ticket purchases made at movie theaters, sports promoters (professional and semi-professional live events), theatrical promoters, amusement parks, tourist attractions, aquariums, zoos, dance halls, record stores, pool halls or bowling alleys. This excludes golf courses, collegiate sporting events and non-industry entertainment merchant codes like cable, digital streaming and membership services.
What counts as streaming?
Streaming purchases made from eligible music and video streaming services, including Netflix ® , Hulu ® and Disney +. Some services, such as Prime Video, AT&T TV and Verizon FIOS On Demand, are excluded, as well as audiobook subscription services and fitness programming.

Now through November 14, 2024, eligible Capital One Savor, SavorOne, SavorOne Student and Quicksilver Student cardholders will earn 10% cash back on qualifying purchases made through the Uber and Uber Eats apps (or dedicated websites) with their eligible card. Additionally, these cardholders will receive a monthly statement credit for each Uber One monthly membership fee fully paid for with their eligible card through November 14, 2024. Qualifying purchases and Uber One monthly membership fees must post to an eligible Capital One account between 12:00 a.m. ET, November 15, 2022, and 11:59 p.m. ET, November 14, 2024. Offer valid in the U.S. only; Uber One monthly membership and purchases through Uber and Uber Eats within the U.S. territories may be excluded. Purchases that post outside of this offer period, purchases made outside of the U.S., Uber gift cards, and Uber One membership fees are not qualifying purchases and are not eligible for the enhanced cash back rewards under this offer; however, these purchases will earn the base rewards earn rate previously disclosed under the terms and conditions of your rewards program. Rewards are subject to the terms and conditions disclosed when you opened your account and any subsequent amendments.
Your account must be open and in good standing to be eligible for these offers. Rewards and each Uber One monthly membership credit, as applicable, will be applied to your account within 1-2 billing cycles.
