How the taxes are calculated
HST is calculated as a single tax. Elsewhere, GST and provincial tax are calculated separately on the pre-tax price. Each tax is rounded to the nearest cent; half a cent rounds up.
The reverse calculation divides the total by one plus the combined rate, then checks nearby cent values. If no price exactly reconstructs the total, the rounding difference is shown separately.
For fully taxable sales at current general rates. Exemptions, zero-rated sales, special rates, input tax credits and business remittances are not calculated here.
