Laurentian Bank Clients: What to Do Before the November 6 to 8 Migration

Laurentian Bank personal banking clients move to National Bank over the weekend of November 6 to 8, 2026. Your Laurentian Bank debit card, branches, ABMs, and online and telephone banking stop working at 4 p.m. ET on Friday, November 6, and National Bank services are restored progressively on Monday, November 9, according to National Bank's migration weekend page.
Most of the Laurentian Bank migration is automatic. A few things are not: scheduled bill payments are cancelled, Interac e-Transfers that nobody accepted are cancelled, and only 20 payees carry over. National Bank asks clients to finish preparing by November 4, 2026.
As of October 2026, Laurentian Bank clients should write down their payees, scheduled payments and account details before November 4, plan another way to pay from 4 p.m. on November 6 until November 9, then activate their National Bank debit card and give their new account number to every payer.
| Date | What happens | What you do |
|---|---|---|
| From September 28, 2026 | Migration letters and guides sent by mail or email | Read your migration guide |
| Mid-October 2026 | National Bank debit card and PIN mailed separately | Keep both, do not activate yet |
| By November 4, 2026 | Preparation deadline set by National Bank | Write down payees, scheduled payments and account details |
| November 6, 2026, 4 p.m. ET | Laurentian Bank debit card, branches, ABMs and online banking shut off | Use cash or a credit card |
| November 6 to 8, 2026 | Migration weekend, no online banking at either bank | Wait, no action required |
| From November 9, 2026 | National Bank services restored progressively | Activate debit card, sign up online, rebuild payments |
| February 28, 2027 | End of welcome terms on migrated products | Confirm or change your package |
National Bank says most of your banking information migrates on its own, but some of it must be set up again by hand in its online banking. Before November 4, 2026, write down:
Fraudsters know about the migration too. National Bank and Laurentian Bank will never ask for your PIN, password or verification code. Our guide to Interac e-Transfer scams covers the usual tricks.
From 4 p.m. ET on Friday, November 6, 2026, your Laurentian Bank debit card is deactivated, and Laurentian Bank branches, ABMs, and online and telephone banking are no longer accessible. National Bank's own online banking is also offline for everyone, existing clients included, until Monday, November 9. Interac e-Transfer service resumes that Monday.
Plan your weekend purchases: withdraw cash before Friday afternoon or use a credit card. Your Laurentian Bank credit card keeps working during and after the migration weekend.
National Bank mailed new debit cards starting in mid-October 2026, with the PIN in a separate envelope. You activate the card by making a transaction with that PIN at an ABM or a store payment terminal. Then, in this order:
Your old Laurentian Bank account number keeps working for a while. National Bank temporarily redirects payments from outside issuers to your new account:
Update every payer well before those windows close. A pay deposit or utility debit that still points to the old number after May 2027 risks being missed.
The Laurentian Bank credit card does not move on this weekend. To pay it from National Bank online banking after November 8, add "Laurentian Bank Visa" as a supplier under the Bills tab. National Bank says details on the credit card itself, including timelines, will be sent later.
National Bank applies these terms to migrated personal banking products until February 28, 2027:
After that date, the regular conditions of your National Bank products apply, and they are detailed in the Product and Service Migration Guide. If the package assigned to you does not fit, you can change it at any time. Before February 2027, compare it with the best chequing accounts in Canada, the best no-fee chequing accounts and the best savings accounts, or put several side by side with our chequing account comparison tool.
Write down your payees and scheduled payments before November 4, keep cash or a credit card for the weekend of November 6 to 8, and give your new account number to every payer within 6 months. Then use the window until February 28, 2027 to decide whether the National Bank package you were given is the right one. Our guide to chequing accounts explains what to look for, more banking guides cover fees and deposit insurance, and the Ratesopedia newsletter tracks changes like this one every week.
