Our Review
With the welcome offer for the ScotiaGold Passport® Visa* Card, you earn 10,000 bonus Scene+ points after charging $2,000 in eligible purchases to your account within the first three months. Plus, Scotiabank waives the $110 annual fee in the first year, for both the primary card and supplementary cards.
This card is offered exclusively through the Casa platform. Its main strength: you pay your rent, condo fees and eligible housing-related bills through Casa with no surcharge, and you earn 1 Scene+ point per dollar. To earn those points, though, you must charge at least $350 in other purchases to the card in the same month.
On everyday purchases, you earn 1 Scene+ point per dollar. You then redeem your points for travel booked through Scene+ Travel, or apply them to a travel purchase charged to your card.
The card also offers:
- Travel emergency medical insurance up to $1 million, for 25 days (under 65)
- Rental car collision and loss damage insurance
- Delayed and lost baggage insurance, travel accident insurance and hotel/motel burglary insurance
- 90-day purchase security and a one-year extended warranty
- Up to 10¢/L in value at Shell with a linked Shell Go+ account
- Up to 25% off base rates at Avis and Budget
For a renter who already pays rent online, it is a simple way to earn points on the biggest monthly expense. On everyday purchases, however, its 1-point-per-dollar earn rate is modest compared to other Scene+ cards such as the Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card. Also note that, according to Scotiabank, the Casa platform is not available in Quebec.
