BMO Travel Insurance Review: $10 Million Medical, New Redion Plans

BMO travel insurance changed insurers on November 3, 2026: BMO Insurance announced a partnership with Redion, and the plans listed on bmo.com now offer up to $10,000,000 in emergency medical coverage, trip cancellation of up to $40,000 and a maximum age of 84 on some plans. The coverage summary on BMO's site names Redion S.A. Canada Branch as the insurer.
The lineup is simpler than before: three plans (All-in, Just Medical, Cancellation & Interruption) sold as single-trip, multi-trip or top-up coverage. This review explains what each plan covers, who can buy it, and what to check if you already hold a BMO travel policy.
As of November 2026, BMO Travel Insurance offers $10,000,000 in emergency medical coverage on its All-in and Just Medical plans, with a health questionnaire from age 65. Single-trip plans cover trips of up to 365 days, while multi-trip plans cover trips of 4, 8, 15 or 30 days, and the multi-trip All-in plan stops at age 84.
Redion is the new name of the Generali group's assistance and travel insurance business, which includes Europ Assistance. According to BMO, Redion provides medical assistance in more than 190 countries. For a BMO customer, the change shows up in three places:
BMO also announced Visitors to Canada policies, sold through BMO Insurance Solutions. Their limits were not on the plan pages we read, so compare them with our guide to travel insurance for visitors to Canada before buying.
The table below gathers the limits BMO shows for each plan and coverage type. All amounts are in Canadian dollars.
| Plan | Emergency medical | Trip cancellation and interruption | Maximum age | Health questionnaire | Maximum trip length |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| All-in, single trip | $10,000,000 | $40,000 | None | Age 65+ | 365 days |
| Just Medical, single trip | $10,000,000 | Not included | None | Age 65+ | 365 days |
| Cancellation & Interruption, single trip | Not included | $40,000 | None | Not required | 365 days |
| All-in, multi-trip | $10,000,000 | $3,000 per trip | 84 | Age 65+ | 4, 8, 15 or 30 days |
| Just Medical, multi-trip | $10,000,000 | Not included | None | Age 65+ | 4, 8, 15 or 30 days |
| All-in, top-up | $10,000,000 | $40,000 | 84 | Age 65+ | 365 days |
| Just Medical, top-up | $10,000,000 | Not included | None | Age 65+ | 365 days |
| Cancellation & Interruption, top-up | Not included | $40,000 | 84 | Not required | 365 days |
The All-in plan is the only one that combines medical, cancellation and baggage protection. On a single trip, BMO's coverage summary lists these benefits for All-in:
Every plan includes 24/7 assistance and a 10-day review period. Telemedicine is included with All-in and Just Medical. On top-up plans, travel delay and baggage benefits are not included.
Frequent travellers under 85. The multi-trip All-in plan bundles medical and up to $3,000 of cancellation per trip, which covers most short getaways. If one trip runs longer than your 4, 8, 15 or 30-day limit, a top-up plan covers the extra days.
Seniors. The single-trip plans and the multi-trip Just Medical plan have no maximum age, but a health questionnaire applies from age 65. Pre-existing conditions must meet the certificate's definition of "stable". Compare with our list of the best travel insurance for seniors in Canada.
Cardholders. If your credit card already covers part of your trip, the top-up plans extend that coverage. BMO's summary notes that the maximum trip length on top-up plans includes days covered by a credit card or another source. Our guide to credit card travel insurance explains how card coverage works.
Snowbirds and travellers within Canada. Single-trip plans cover up to 365 days and include domestic travel, which matters because provincial plans pay only part of out-of-province bills. See what your health card covers between provinces.
BMO does not publish premiums: the price depends on your age, trip length, destination and health answers, and you get it through an online quote. Our guide on how much travel insurance costs shows which factors move the price the most. Get the same quote from two other insurers before you pay.
BMO's $10,000,000 medical limit is a fixed ceiling, while our RBC review found unlimited emergency medical on most RBC plans. Read our RBC travel insurance review and our TD travel insurance review to compare age limits and multi-trip durations side by side.
BMO travel insurance now runs through Redion, with $10,000,000 of emergency medical coverage and a cleaner set of three plans. Choose All-in if you want cancellation and baggage protection, Just Medical if your card or another policy already covers cancellation, and a top-up plan to stretch existing coverage. If you bought a BMO policy before November 2026, read your certificate to see which insurer covers you, and call 1-833-724-9927 before you leave if anything is unclear.
