A credit card welcome offer can be worth more than a full year of everyday rewards, but only if you reach the minimum spend without changing your budget. This page lists the best credit card welcome offers in Canada as of October 18, 2026, grouped by what you want to earn. Every amount, minimum spend and end date below comes from our card catalogue on that date. For the full picture of each card, start with our credit cards hub or our ranking of the best credit cards in Canada.
We refresh this page every month. Issuers can change an offer at any time, so confirm the terms on the issuer's application page before you apply.
How we picked these welcome offers
We started from every active, public card in our catalogue that carried a current welcome offer on October 18, 2026. We then kept the offers that return the most value for a realistic level of spending in each category. A large point total with a $20,000 spending target is not the same deal as a smaller total you can reach with normal purchases.
Three rules apply to every pick:
One source for every number: offer amounts, minimum spend, deadlines and annual fees come from our card catalogue, never from another article.
"Up to" stays "up to": when an issuer pays the offer in steps, we show the maximum and explain each step.
Paid placements stay separate: a sponsored card appears only in its own labelled section, never inside the editorial lists.
When two cards answer the same need equally well, we list first the issuer we work with most often. That rule never moves a card that fits less well above one that fits better.

The Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card is the best credit card in Canada for free hotel nights.
New Cardmembers can earn up to 70,000 Marriott Bonvoy® points with the current offer:
Earn up to 60,000 points after you spend $3,000 on your Card in your first 3 months of Cardmembership.
Plus, earn 10,000 points after you spend $500 on your Card in your 13th month of Cardmembership.
The annual fee is $120, and there is no annual fee on Additional Cards, so you can add a partner or a family member at no extra cost.
Every year after your first Card anniversary, you receive an Annual Free Night Award good for a redemption of up to 35,000 points at eligible hotels and resorts worldwide. At a valuation of 0.9 cents per Marriott Bonvoy point, that certificate is worth roughly $315, which on its own more than covers the $120 annual fee. That is the main reason to keep this Card year after year instead of cancelling it.
To get the most out of the certificate, aim it at a night that would otherwise price close to the 35,000 point ceiling.
The Card also gives you 15 Elite Night Credits each calendar year and automatic Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status. Those credits count toward the next Elite tier, so you begin every year 15 nights ahead of where you would otherwise start.
You move up to Gold Elite status automatically when you reach $30,000 in purchases on the Card in a year, or when you combine 10 qualifying paid nights within one calendar year with the 15 Elite Night Credits from your Card.
Marriott Bonvoy points are generally valued at 0.9 cents each. On that basis, the 70,000 point welcome offer is worth about $630, and an Annual Free Night Award used at its full 35,000 point ceiling is worth about $315.
Marriott Bonvoy points pull their weight on free nights rather than on gift cards or merchandise, which is why this Card should be judged on the hotel stays it produces.
You earn 5 points per dollar on eligible purchases at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels and 2 points per dollar on all other purchases. Points can be redeemed for free nights with no blackout dates at more than 7,000 hotels around the world.
The Card carries a solid package of coverages: $500,000 travel accident insurance, flight delay, baggage delay, lost or stolen baggage and hotel or motel burglary at $500 each, car rental theft and damage up to $85,000 for rentals of up to 48 days, Purchase Protection for 90 days and a one year Extended Warranty.
Two things to plan around: the 2.5% foreign transaction fee on purchases made in a foreign currency, and the 21.99% purchase interest rate, which makes this a Card to pay in full every month. Like all American Express Canada Cards, no minimum income is published for this Card, and you can see whether you would be approved before you apply, with no impact on your credit score.

Best no-annual-fee welcome offers
A no-fee card keeps the whole welcome offer in your pocket, since there is no fee to subtract. The trade-off is a smaller amount. See every option in the best no annual fee credit cards.
BMO CashBack® Mastercard®*: up to $125 cash back after $2,500 in purchases within 3 months. Offer ends October 31, 2027.
Scotia Momentum® No-Fee Visa* Card: up to $100 cash back after $2,000 in purchases within 3 months, plus a 0.99% introductory rate on balance transfers for the first nine months. Offer ends November 1, 2026.
CIBC Dividend® Visa* Card: up to $100 cash back after $2,000 in purchases within 4 months. No published end date.
RBC ION Visa Card: up to 14,000 Avion points, with 7,000 points on approval and 7,000 points after $500 in purchases within 3 months. Offer ends November 4, 2026.
Some cards skip points and waive the fee or cut the interest instead. These offers suit you if you want to test a premium card at no cost or pay down a balance.
National Bank World Elite® Mastercard®: a first-year annual fee rebate on a $150 annual fee. The card is marked Exclusive in our catalogue. Offer ends November 4, 2026.
MBNA True Line® Mastercard®: 0% interest for up to 12 months on balance transfers, not available in Quebec. No annual fee and no published end date.
CIBC Select Visa* Card: 0% interest on balance transfers of $100 or more for your first 10 months, plus a first-year annual fee rebate on a $29 annual fee. No published end date.
Divide the minimum spend by the number of months. A $7,500 target over 6 months is $1,250 a month, while $3,000 over 3 months is $1,000 a month. If you would need to buy things you do not need, pick a smaller offer. Interest on a carried balance can cost more than the offer is worth.
Points are not dollars
A point total says little until you know what a point is worth. The value depends on how you use the points, so check our points valuation page before you compare a points offer with a cash back offer. Our rewards calculator also estimates what a card earns with your own spending.
Steps that pay after the first year
Several offers pay their last step after the first account anniversary or in month 13. By then, the second-year annual fee usually applies. Count that fee before you treat the final step as free value.
Eligibility and your credit file
Applying for a card triggers a credit check, which appears on your credit report. Issuers also set their own rules on who qualifies for a welcome offer, especially if you held the card before. Our credit score hub explains how applications affect your file.
Frequently asked questions about credit card welcome offers
What is a credit card welcome offer?
A welcome offer is a reward an issuer gives new cardholders, usually in points or cash back, once they meet a spending condition. Some offers also include a first-year annual fee rebate or a low introductory interest rate. On Ratesopedia we use the term "welcome offer" for all of these. You can compare current offers side by side with our credit card comparison tool, and each card's page lists its full conditions.
How much do I need to spend to get a welcome offer?
It depends on the card. In our October 18, 2026 catalogue, targets range from $500 within 3 months for the RBC ION Visa Card to $20,000 within 12 months for the BMO Ascend™ World Elite®* Mastercard®*. Divide the target by the number of months to see if it fits your budget. Our rewards calculator helps you test your own spending.
Do I still pay the annual fee during the welcome offer?
Does applying for a credit card hurt my credit score?
An application triggers a credit check that appears on your credit report, and several applications in a short period can weigh on your score. Paying the card in full and on time matters more over the long run. Space out your applications and apply only for cards you plan to use. Our guide on how to get a good credit score explains what lenders look at.
Why is one card shown in a separate sponsored section?
The TD First Class Travel® Visa Infinite* Card holds a sponsored placement this month, which is a paid arrangement with the issuer. We keep it in its own labelled section so it does not blend into our editorial picks. The figures for that card come from the same catalogue as every other card on the page. Our full best credit cards ranking explains how we evaluate cards.
How often do credit card welcome offers change?
Issuers change offers often, sometimes several times a year, and some offers carry a fixed end date. This page reflects our catalogue as of October 18, 2026, and we refresh it every month. Before you apply, confirm the current terms on the issuer's page. The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada also recommends reading the application and credit agreement carefully.
