Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite Review: Up to 35,000 Scene+ Points

The Scotiabank Passport® Visa Infinite +* Card is built for one job: spending abroad without paying foreign transaction fees. For new accounts opened by November 1, 2026, it also offers up to 35,000 Scene+ points, and it includes 6 free airport lounge visits a year. All figures in this review are as of October 20, 2026.
Below, we break down how the welcome offer really pays out, what the card earns, what the insurance covers, and who should pick something else. For the wider picture, start with our credit cards hub or our ranking of the best cards with no foreign transaction fee.
The "up to 35,000 points" figure combines two separate bonuses with very different conditions:
The first part is within reach for most households, since $2,000 over three months is about $667 a month. The annual bonus is another story: $40,000 a year means roughly $3,333 of monthly spending on this card alone.
In practice, most new cardholders should count on the 25,000 points. At Scene+'s travel rate of 1,000 points for $10, that is $250 off a trip.
The card earns Scene+ points, with its best rate at Sobeys family grocery stores:
| Category | Scene+ points per $1 | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Sobeys family stores | 3 | Sobeys, Safeway, IGA, Foodland, participating Co-ops, FreshCo, Thrifty Foods |
| Other grocery stores and dining | 2 | Eligible grocery stores and restaurants |
| Entertainment | 2 | Movies, theatre, ticket agencies |
| Daily transit | 2 | Rideshares, buses, taxis, subways |
| All other purchases | 1 | Everything else, including foreign purchases |
Scene+ points can be applied against any travel purchase charged to the card at 1,000 points = $10, which covers flights, hotels, and vacation packages booked anywhere. That makes the math simple: each point is worth 1 cent on travel. Try your own budget in our rewards calculator to see what the card earns for you, or browse the best Scene+ credit cards.
This is the main reason to hold the card. Scotiabank charges no foreign transaction fee on purchases in foreign currencies; only the exchange rate applies. Most Canadian credit cards add 2.5% on top of the exchange rate.
On $5,000 of spending abroad or on foreign websites in a year, a 2.5% fee would cost $125. That one saving covers most of the $150 annual fee, before you count any points. Our credit card fees guide explains how conversion fees are calculated.
The card includes 6 complimentary lounge visits per year through the Visa Airport Companion Program, run by DragonPass. Six visits cover three round trips for one traveller, or one round trip for a family of three. Our ranking of cards with Visa Airport Companion access compares the other options.
Scotiabank also adds a GigSky mobile data perk: 10 GB of global data, valid for 15 days from activation, then a 1 GB plan for 15 days each year.
According to Scotiabank's product page and the card's certificate, as of October 20, 2026:
Purchase protection lasts 90 days, and the extended warranty doubles the manufacturer's warranty for up to one year. Read the insurance certificate before you leave, and compare coverages with our credit card insurance guide.
Here is what the card costs:
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Annual fee | $150 |
| Additional cards | First card $0, then $50 each |
| Purchase interest rate | 20.99% |
| Cash advance rate | 22.99% |
| Foreign transaction fee | None (exchange rate only) |
| Minimum income | $60,000 personal or $100,000 household |
Scotiabank says the annual fee can be waived with an eligible Scotiabank bank account. If you already pay for a premium chequing package there, check that option before you apply.
Within Scotiabank's lineup, the Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite Privilege Card costs $599 a year and keeps the no foreign transaction fee feature. It targets frequent flyers who want more lounge visits and can meet a higher income requirement.
The National Bank World Elite Mastercard costs the same $150 and pays more on groceries and restaurants, but it charges a 2.5% conversion fee abroad. The Scotiabank Gold American Express Card also skips foreign transaction fees for $120 a year, but American Express is accepted at fewer merchants abroad than Visa. See every option in our ranking of the best Scotiabank credit cards.
The Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite+ Card earns its fee through what it does not charge. If you spend $3,000 or more a year in foreign currencies, the missing 2.5% fee and the 6 lounge visits easily justify the $150 annual fee. The 25,000-point welcome bonus, available on accounts opened by November 1, 2026, adds $250 of travel value on top.
The earn rates are average outside Sobeys stores, and the $40,000 annual bonus threshold is out of reach for most households. Compare it side by side with other cards in our credit card comparison tool. The full terms are on Scotiabank's Passport Visa Infinite page.

As of October 20, 2026, new accounts opened between August 4 and November 1, 2026, earn 25,000 Scene+ points after $2,000 in eligible purchases within the first 3 months. The card also pays an annual bonus of 10,000 points each year you spend $40,000, which is how Scotiabank reaches "up to 35,000 points" in year one. See the card's product page for the full details.
Yes. Scotiabank does not charge a foreign transaction fee on purchases in foreign currencies; only the exchange rate applies. Most Canadian credit cards add 2.5%, so you save $25 for every $1,000 spent abroad. Our ranking of the best cards with no foreign transaction fee lists the alternatives.
The card includes 6 complimentary visits per year through the Visa Airport Companion Program, powered by DragonPass. That covers three round trips for a solo traveller. If you need more visits, compare the cards in our Visa Airport Companion ranking.
When you apply Scene+ points against travel purchases charged to the card, 1,000 points are worth $10, or 1 cent per point. At that rate, the 25,000-point welcome bonus equals $250 of travel. Our rewards calculator helps you estimate what your own spending would earn.
Our product data lists a minimum of $60,000 in personal income or $100,000 in household income, the usual Visa Infinite threshold. Scotiabank also accepts applicants who meet an assets under management requirement. If you fall short, browse the other Scotiabank credit cards.
Not on its own. The emergency medical coverage pays up to $2 million, but only for the first 25 days of a trip if you are under 65, and 3 days from age 65. For a longer stay, you would need a top-up policy. Our credit card insurance guide explains how these limits work.
